Intro to Fire Alarm Systems Design, Maintenance, and NFPA 72 Class
DESCRIPTION: The Intro to Fire Alarm Systems Design, Maintenance and NFPA 72 training class teaches students about the stages of fire, fire alarm system design, and the components that make up a fire alarm system. Students learn the codes and standards for fire alarm systems, including the 2022 National Fire Protection Association NFPA 72® National Fire Alarm Code®. Students learn the operating principles of initiating devices, notification appliances, and fire alarm systems with specific equipment examples and installation and placement considerations. They also learn how to design a fire alarm system with zoning, assessment and planning, and power management in mind.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Anyone who is responsible for Fire Alarm System planning, plan review, equipment specifications, installation, acceptance, operation, and maintenance.

MAAP+ /BT-X FSK Fire Class
DESCRIPTION: The MAAP+ training class introduces the components of addressable panels including circuits, LCD, LEDs, ports, and switches. Students learn how each panel is expected to work from supplied specification drawings, the basics of the Monaco Addressable Planner Plus software, as well as hands-on experience wiring devices, resolving troubles and testing the panels. Finally, communication between MAAP+ Addressable panel and Monaco Central Receiving Systems is explained. Extensive labs teach students the following:
- Install, program, operate, and maintain MAAP+ addressable panels
- Operation of the MAAP+ planner and transferring configuration files to the D-21
- Transfer system requirements to a point-to-point drawing and then wire the panes to meet those system requirements.
Monaco’s BT-X FSK (Frequency Shift Key) Multi Application Transceiver is installed in protected buildings and communicates to the D-21 Central Receiving System. Students learn how to install, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the BT-X FSK Multi Application Transceiver.
The antenna lab teaches students how to correctly terminate coaxial cable and install antennas to prevent 80 percent of problems that customers encounter with radio transmissions.
Students with a laptop computer will receive hands-on experience programming panels using the planning software.
PREREQUISITES:
Pentium-class laptop computer with Windows 95 or later, and at least one 9-pin RS-232 serial port or a 9-pin RS-232 to USB adaptor to program the transceivers. Students need administrative rights to their computer to install software used in the class.

DESCRIPTION: Covers installation, programming, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of MAAP-X addressable MNS FACP, which reports to the D-21 Central Receiving System through a built-in radio transceiver. The course also covers basic D-21 data entry for MAAP-X addressable MNS FACP, as well as antenna installation, troubleshooting, testing, radio transmissions with the D-21 and MNS local operating consoles. Extensive Labs teach students the following:
- Class is taught through lecture and by hands-on labs, wiring addressable devices, MAAP-X programming through the Planner software, and testing to include transmissions with the D-21 Central Receiving System.
- Students learn the 3 operation modes of an MAAP-X FACP: stand-alone (no radio), point reporting, and non-point reporting.
- Students learn how to program the panel using conventional IDCs and addressable SLCs. Students also learn how to use the new MNS features and capabilities of the MAAP-X. Point reporting, sensor grouping, local operating consoles, and text displays are also covered.
- Students receive MAAP-X Planner software to program the panels.
- Students learn how to import a MAAP-X point reporting database file into the D-21.
Students with a laptop computer will receive hands-on experience programming panels using the planning software.

MAAP-X Sub-Panel and Expansion Backplane Class
DESCRIPTION: Covers installation, programming, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the MAAP-X Sub-Panels and Expansion Backplanes, on a VPN to a MAAP-X Panel, which reports to the D-21 Central Receiving System through a built-in radio transceiver. The course also covers basic D-21 data entry for expanded MAAP-X with MNS and Fire local operating consoles (LOCs), text displays, and radio transmissions with the D-21. MAAP-X Sub-Panels and Expansion Backplanes are intended for large or multi-building complexes and SCIF installations.
- Class is taught through lecture and by hands-on labs, wiring addressable devices, MAAP-X programming through the Planner software, and testing to include transmissions with the D-21 Central Receiving System.
- Students learn how to configure the MAAP-X System with MAAP-X Sub-Panels on a Fiber VPN and Expansion Backplanes on a Copper VPN, connect LOCs and text displays to each panel type, and ensure all report back to the D-21. Panels support 3 operating modes: stand-alone (no radio), point reporting, and non-point reporting.
- Students learn how to program the panels’ addressable SLCs and SOCs for prerecorded and live voice MNS. Students also learn how to use the new MNS features and capabilities of the expanded MAAP-X System with LOCs and text displays.
- Students receive MAAP-X Planner software to program the panels.
- Students learn how to import a MAAP-X point reporting database file into the D-21.

D-21 Central Receiving Class
DESCRIPTION: The D-21 is a sophisticated, Windows® based Central Receiving and Management System that is compatible with the D-21 and D-700 transceivers. The D-21 uses client/server architecture and consists of two client programs: the D-21 Administration Client and the D-21 Incident Client. The D-21 Incident Client is used by operators to process incidents and dispatch resources.
The D-21 Central Receiving Class provides hands-on experience setting up the D-21 using the Admin Client and handling incidents using the D-21 Incident Client — from responding to an alert, creating an incident, dispatching resources to handle the incident, and working with the D-21 to provide information needed to expedite incident resolution.
Operators also learn how to use the daily activity functions, view status information and response plans, dispatch resources, interact with an ESRI map of a base, and much more.

DESCRIPTION: Monaco’s BT-X FSK (Frequency Shift Key) Multi Application Transceiver is installed in protected buildings and communicates to the D-21 Central Receiving System. The BT-X FSK Multi Application Transceivers Class is an intensive week of education. Students learn how to install, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the BT-X FSK Multi Application Transceiver and the BT-X MNS M-2 interface. Extensive hands-on time is provided for troubleshooting, using test equipment, programming the BT-X Transceiver, and using diagnostics. Including training on the D-21 MNS and the BT-X MNS to M-2 FACP Interface. The antenna lab teaches students how to correctly terminate coaxial cable and install antennas to prevent 80 percent of problems that customers encounter with radio transmissions. This class is a must for anyone who works with Monaco BT-X transceivers.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Anyone who is responsible for radio alarm, Mass Notification systems, planning/reviewing/specification writing, installation, acceptance, and maintenance.
